Agriculture and forestry

Farming is run in-house. We use about 410 ha, of which about 150 ha winter wheat, about 80 ha spring grain, about 45 ha rape, about 65 ha sward and about 40 ha fallow. Part of the cultivation is seed cultivation. The company has two full-time employees. In addition to crop cultivation and maintenance of machines, buildings and fixtures, they take care of pastures, maintenance of roads, etc., etc. There are large areas of pasture in Bjärka-Säby. They are kept open by large numbers of cattle and sheep. Horses from Stall Bjärka-Säby also have summer pasture in a couple of paddocks.

The outbuildings on the farm are old, beautiful and well maintained. The brick barn was built in 1874-1875 and today houses horse stables, a riding track, a drying facility and pitches for caravans etc. The barn and above all the former haystack are also used for weddings and events. The former magazine was built in 1886 and is used today for weddings, events, etc. In the building there is also a small carriage museum with Bjärka-Säby's old horse-drawn carriages. In 2012, the old machine hall was demolished and replaced by a new and larger one. The building also houses a modern farm workshop. Responsible for the plant cultivation is Hasse Andersson, telephone 070-9513813.

Bjärka-Säby's forests are managed under the auspices of the Forest Society. The proportion of coniferous forest is approx. 75%, of which approx. 3/4 is spruce. The deciduous forest area makes up about 25% and is dominated by birch and oak. Oak occurs mainly in the pastures, which are grazed by cattle and sheep. One area is protected and one area is a nature reserve. Both of these areas were voluntarily set aside for the benefit of nature conservation during the 1920s.
